Hawa Feminist Coalition uses creative, evidence-based advocacy to challenge gender-based violence against women and girls, including rape, FGM, child marriage, sexual harassment, domestic violence, and harmful social norms prevalent in Somalia. The organization uses a range of approaches, including community outreach, media, arts, poetry, sports, digital campaigns, and policy dialogues, to influence public attitudes, promote legal and policy reform, and strengthen accountability for the rights and safety of women and girls. This has helped strengthen public awareness, challenge harmful traditional practices, encourage community dialogue, and promote greater accountability for the protection, dignity, and rights of women and girls. The organization’s advocacy has also contributed to legal and policy reform processes addressing FGM, sexual violence, and other forms of gender-based violence in Somalia.
